Ruby, 16, Hope Island

Closing the gap on domestic and family violence for children and young people

Ruby...

is a 16-year-old Queensland young person living in Hope Island. She is a student with a passion for social justice advocacy and has developed a not-for-profit organisation for young people affected by domestic and family violence. 

Ruby spoke at the QFCC Youth Summit in April 2024 about closing the gap on domestic violence towards children and young people and the need for more support for young people who witness domestic violence in the home.

  • The Queensland Police Service DFV&VP Training Unit plans to embed Ruby's speech into their Domestic and Family Violence training curriculum for police specialising in Domestic Violence related duties.
  • The Department of Housing, Local Government, Planning and Public Works plans to work with Ruby on an internal communication and engagement strategy for Child Protection Week.
