Young, Black and Proud scholarships launch for 2024

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people can now apply for a Young, Black and Proud scholarship of up to $5000 in the fields of arts, education and sport.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders, aged 25 years and younger, can apply.

The program has helped hundreds of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people pursue their dreams and help them succeed in their chosen field.

The Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC) in partnership with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service (ATSICHS) is calling for young people from across Queensland to apply for a scholarship, with applications open until 16 August 2024.

Many past recipients have changed the direction of their lives with a Young, Black and Proud scholarship, providing help to pursue educational opportunities, take up a new sport or follow their dream in the arts. This has also had a positive impact on the communities these recipients are from as they inspire hundreds of young people around them.

To be eligible to apply for the program, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people must be 25 years or younger, live in Queensland, be looking for support with school, university, arts or sporting dreams, and be passionate about their community.

This year, $1000, $2000 and $5000 scholarships are on offer. Applications will also be open to groups as well as individuals, including sports teams, theatre groups or debate teams, if the group fits into one of the three categories of sports, arts or education.
