Raising the age of criminal responsibility Issues paper

The issues paper sets out the QFCC’s evidence-based position that a restorative justice approach should be implemented to enable the minimum age of criminal responsibility in Queensland to be increased to 14 years of age. It also states our position that no child under 14 should be sentenced to detention.  As well as promoting the position of the QFCC, the paper outlines how the development of a restorative system could allow children to take responsibility for their actions. The issues paper explores how to achieve this, including extending community-controlled programs, and it provides cohort and apprehension analysis to support the position.
