Commissioner appointed for the Queensland Family and Child Commission

The search for a new Commissioner for the Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC) is over with Ms Natalie Lewis’s recent appointment to the role.

Ms Lewis, a Gamilaraay woman, brings with her a wealth of experience and knowledge from her distinguished over 20-year career in youth justice, child and family services and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander affairs.

Ms Lewis will support Principal Commissioner Cheryl Vardon with a strong and renewed focus on the systemic and structural issues disproportionately affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

Chief Executive and Principal Commissioner of the QFCC, Ms Cheryl Vardon welcomes Ms Lewis to the Commission.

“Ms Lewis will lead and grow the great work already being done by the QFCC, including our Families are First program and our continued collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations,” Ms Vardon said.

“Ms Lewis is presently the Chief Executive Officer with QATSICPP Limited.

“The QFCC will continue to drive change to better the safety, wellbeing and interests of children and young people, including those in the child protection system with the support of Ms Lewis as a part our executive team.

“I would like to thank previous QFCC Commissioner, Mr Phillip Brooks, for his dedication to supporting Queensland families and children.”

Ms Lewis said she is eager to join the QFCC to build on the work already being done at the commission.

“The work undertaken by the QFCC is critical to supporting Queensland families,” Ms Lewis said.

“I’m looking forward to supporting the QFCC’s commitment to keeping children, young people and families safe.”
